I shall go
Up and down,
In my gown.
Gorgeously arrayed,
Boned and stayed.
And the softness of my body will be guarded
From embrace
By each button hook and lace- Amy Lowell (Patterns)
And neither the angels in Heaven above
Nor the demons down under the sea
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;- Edgar Allen Poe (Annabel Lee)
I like to see this as a metaphor for the internet. Perhaps not quite what Tennyson intended :)And moving thro' a mirror clear
That hangs before her all the year,
Shadows of the world appear.- Lord Alfred, Lord Tennyson (The Lady of Shallot)
There Will Come Soft Rains
There will come soft rains and the smell of the ground,
And swallows circling with their shimmering sound;
And frogs in the pools, singing at night,
And wild plum trees in tremulous white,
Robins will wear their feathery fire,
Whistling their whims on a low fence-wire;
And not one will know of the war, not one
Will care at last when it is done.
Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree,
If mankind perished utterly;
And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn,
Would scarcely know that we were gone.- Sara Teasdale
There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;...
I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.
I do not think that they will sing to me
- T.S. Eliot (The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock)
